INDIANAPOLIS -- The City of Indianapolis has filed a petition that could give it the option of turning a portion of the rails along the Nickel Plate Line into a trail.

The Indianapolis Department of Public works says there are currently no official plans to convert the rail line in Indianapolis to a trail, but the petition filings preserve the city’s ability to work with neighborhood and community leaders to explore increased connectivity along the corridor.

It would allow the Nickel Plate Trail to span from Noblesville, through Fishers and all the way down to 13th Street in Indianapolis.

Eventually, the Nickel Plate Trail could also be connected to the Monon Trail, creating a large trail system.
