INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis mother facing deportation has been told she can leave the United States with her two children after a meeting Thursday morning with federal immigration officers.
Erika Fierro was brought to the United States when she was 5 years old. Her parents were illegal immigrants. She graduated from Beech Grove High School, and friends say she became a productive member of society.
But now, she's expected to leave the county next month.

Fierro has two children, aged 8 and 3. She was afraid they would have to go into foster care because ICE was not allowing the children to get passports so they could travel to Mexico with their family.
"It's already been tragic for them," Fierro said. "They don't sleep well. They wake up with nightmares. my daughter cries so much. My son cries by himself, just all of a sudden starts crying for his daddy."
Their father, Fierro's husband, was deported last month.
Religious leaders from "Faith in Indiana" accompanied her to the meeting Friday morning. Fierro was told she can take her children with her, and will be allowed to leave the country and go back to Mexico.
