INDIANAPOLIS — If you're enjoying the free rides on the new IndyGo Red Line, you can keep enjoying them a little bit longer.

IndyGo has extended the free fare period again, as they continue to work out the kinks in and implement their new fare system.

IndyGo's Board of Directors authorized the extension during September's Board meeting because of the delayed delivery of the myKey fare system components, including the mobile app and ticket vending machines.

Because of the delay in the new system, IndyGo is working to implement a temporary fare collection solution that will go into effect on December 1. The temporary fare solution will let riders purchase a two-hour transfer ticket as well as day and week passes with both cash and credit card.

“IndyGo is committed to providing a customer experience that is reliable and accessible for all riders,” said Bryan Luellen, Vice President of Public Affairs, “We are choosing to hold the launch of the MyKey fare system until we are confident that all components of the system are fully functional for our riders.”

The free fare extension period will allow IndyGo to test the temporary fare solution and educate riders on how to use the new ticket vending machines, once they become active.

Riders will be expected to produce proof of a valid Red line fare beginning December 1. Ticket vending machines will be available at each Red line station and at teh Julia M. Carson Transit Center.
