INDIANAPOLIS -- The City of Lawrence is bracing for the impact from an announcement this week by Monarch Beverage.

The state’s largest beer distributor says it will have to lay off 100 employees after losing a contract with a major vendor.

Lawrence Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Trace Yates calls this a disappointing turn for workers, their families, and the entire community.

“Monarch does a tremendous amount of philanthropic work in Lawrence,” says Yates. “The company has a large footprint here, and if they’re laying off workers who live in Lawrence, that means families who won’t have the resources to spend money in our community, and then you have a ripple effect.”
