Multiple Indianapolis flights delayed because of power outage at Atlanta airport

INDIANAPOLIS -- A massive power outage at the busiest airport in the world has caused a ripple effect of flight delays and cancelations across the country, including Indianapolis. 

As of 6 a.m. Monday, more than half a dozen flights at the Indianapolis International Airport to and from Atlanta had been canceled or delayed. 

The Atlanta Airport issued a release Sunday afternoon saying the outage began shortly after 1 p.m. Power was restored at around 12:30 a.m. The cause of the outage remains under investigation.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground stop for flights headed to Atlanta and flights headed to Atlanta are being diverted to different airports. 

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection Service said on Twitter that due to the power outage, international flights were being diverted to other airports.

Here are the latest developments:

- More than 600 flights to and from Atlanta were canceled, including 350 departures, according to Flightradar24.

- More than 450 Delta mainline and regional flights were canceled.

- Southwest Airlines canceled all operations in and out of Atlanta.

- Flights headed to Atlanta were being held on the ground at their departure airport.

- Inbound flights to Atlanta were being diverted, US Customs and Border Protection said.

- Departures from the airport are delayed because electronic equipment is not working in the terminals, the FAA said.

- The cause of the incident is under investigation.
