INDIANAPOLIS -- The woman arrested for attacking her neighbors with a sign over the weekend was upset over the volume of the music they were playing, court documents reveal.

Vicki New, 67, was arrested Thursday in connection with an assault caught on camera Sunday on Indianapolis’ northwest side. In the video, a woman – later identified as New – can be seen pulling signs out of Miguel Rios and Luvia Roman’s yard and saying she’ll kill them.

In a probable cause affidavit filed Friday, police say New admitted to breaking a "no trespass" sign that belonged to her neighbor and throwing it in the driveway. One of her neighbors, Rios, told police a piece of a wooden sign New threw during the attack struck him in the face – although New denied that.

Police took New into custody on preliminary charges of criminal trespass, criminal mischief and battery resulting in bodily injury. In an interview following her arrest, New reportedly told IMPD officers she became upset when the music Rios and Roman were listening to in their driveway became too loud, according to the affidavit filed Friday.

New also told investigators that Roman and Rios, as well as IMPD officers, had previously warned her about trespassing on their property.

New was released from the Marion County Jail Friday on her own recognizance. An initial hearing had not yet been set.
