INDIANAPOLIS — A driver was killed after slamming into the back of a stopped Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) plow truck early Thursday morning on Indianapolis' north side.

Indiana State Police were called to the scene on Michigan Road just south of 96th Street around 2 a.m.

Investigators say an INDOT plow truck was stopped in the left turn lane on northbound Michigan Road and preparing to turn onto I-465 when another vehicle veered into the turn lane and struck the truck from behind.

The driver of the car was unconscious and unresponsive and later pronounced dead at the scene. The INDOT truck driver was taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators say at the time of the crash the truck was stopped because the left turn light was red. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by Indiana State Police.
