INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Project Indy kicked off its first "Summer Job Sundays" event at churches across Indianapolis last weekend.

Indy teens asked questions about the program and got set up with a job for this summer.

Employers also met with volunteers on how to get involved and connect with the teen community.

Officials say Project Indy allows students to earn their own money and prepares them for the workforce.

"You get to put some of those things on your resume. We have lifeguards that have been with Indy Parks summer after summer, they put those on their resumes. We have folks who have been with Indy Parks who now have full-time jobs with us. I think it's a great opportunity to not only get some money over the summer but just to get that experience," said Ronnett aSpalding, Indy Parks spokesperson.

Job programs like Teen Works, Indy Parks, and Keep Indianapolis Beautiful all have March deadlines.
