INDIANAPOLIS – The widow of former Butler basketball player, Andrew Smith, announced in a blogpostFriday that she has remarried and is pregnant.
Samantha Michael-Smith says she met Nick “at the lowest points” in her life and they quickly became friends.
“We were quick friends who grew into best friends. We fell in love through hard conversations, endless patience with one another, and more grace than I thought possible,” Michael-Smith said in the post. “I am a wife and soon-to-be mother. I am a speaker and a writer, grateful for life experiences and lessons that have made my voice stronger.”

Smith was diagnosed with and beat cancer in 2014. In May 2015, the cancer returned. He later died in January 2016 at the age of 25.
