INDIANAPOLIS -- Several schools are stepping up to help former Harrison College students transfer so they can finish their degrees without losing everything they’ve done so far.

Harrison College announced Friday that it was closing all campuses in three states effective Sunday.

Some schools may take all the credits Harrison College students have earned; others will work with the students to see which credits are transferable and how to get the most out of the work they have already done.

Those eight schools include:

  • The American College of Education
  • Indiana Wesleyan University
  • International Business College
  • Ivy Tech
  • National American University
  • Ross Medical Education Center
  • Saint Mary of the Woods
  • WGU Indiana

“It is a big decision to go to college,” said Teresa Lubbers with the Indiana Commission of Higher Education. “We’ve heard from students… one in tears who was going to start his junior year and now feels that opportunity has been taken away… and we want to make sure his opportunity and others have not been taken and look at other institutions that can meet their educational needs. We have a good set of options.”

Another issue some students are facing is their financial aid. If you have any questions about where yours stands, you can call 888-528-4719. If you have a federal loan or a private loan you should call your service provider to work out your situation.

The Indiana Commission for Higher Education will get all of Harrison’s transcript records over time for people who need to get proof for a future job or to apply to another school.

It will take several weeks before the commission will be ready to manage that database.

Harrison College, formerly Indiana Business College, opened in 1902. The private college is based in Indianapolis and had several campuses in Indiana, Ohio and North Carolina.
