INDIANAPOLIS -- The Secretary of State’s office along with the American Association for Retired Person’s held a seminar Wednesday to give seniors tips on how to -not- become scam victims.
Those attending the seminar watched a documentary entitled “Scammed: Investment Fraud Revealed” that looks at the issues through the eyes of the victims.
Many of those who attended the event said it was an eye-opening experience.
"It's just something more to make us aware of how sad it can be,” said Carole Roudebush Swaynie. “I don't want it to ever happen to me. I'll put it that way."
The panel stressed to the seniors attending that if they have any questions about an investment or situation they should consult someone they trust before committing.
The Indiana Attorney General’s Office says they investigate more than 15,000 cases of fraud each year.
