INDIANAPOLIS -- Three students were arrested Tuesday for making social media threats against Southport High School.
Perry Township Schools were alerted by Greenwood police about the threats Monday night.
Southport police along with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and Perry Township School Police executed search warrants at the homes of the three students believed to be responsible.
Southport police say they recovered several long guns and handguns, as well as electronic equipment that may have been used to make the threats.
Police told the students and their parents that they were not to return to school, pending the outcome of the investigation.
The school district says it was assured by police that it was safe to open the school on Tuesday, but additional officers from Southport and Indianapolis were on hand along with the school police.
The students under arrest are 16 and 17-years-old. They were taken to the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center where they face preliminary charges of felony intimidation and misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
