Man identified who was shot, killed on Indianapolis' northeast side

INDIANAPOLIS -- Two people were shot and one of them killed on Indianapolis northeast side Monday evening. 

Officers say a man with a gunshot wound approached an officer around 42nd Street and Post Road around 7 p.m. and said he had been shot a couple blocks away.

When officers arrived at the location he had been shot, near the corner of Breen Drive and Hampshire Road, they found a man dead in a vehicle. He has been identified as Derick Daniels, 26, by the Marion County Coroner's Office.

The man who approached officers was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Police are still working to determine exactly what happened. The shootings remain under investigation by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
