INDIANAPOLIS — The United Way of Central Indiana is kicking off its Winter Assistance Fund to assist individuals and families who do not qualify for the state's low-income energy assistance program for utility bill assistance during the winter months.
Last year, the Winter Assistance Fund raised almost $250,000 and provided gas and electric utility assistance to 710 households comprised of 1,304 individuals, the United Way said in a news release.
"Access to basic needs and the well-being of our community's individuals and their families remains a top priority for United Way," Mary Jones, community impact director at United Way, said in a statement. "Through the Winter Assistance Fund, we are able to ensure more people can feel safe and warm during the cold winter months."

Select locations are now accepting applications for the Winter Assistance Fund. Interested individuals may dial 2-1-1 to find out where you can make an appointment.
