INDIANAPOLIS -- Wayne Township Trustee Andy Harris says he is cancer-free following his 30th treatment Thursday.
Friends and family surprised Trustee Harris outside his last treatment at IU West’s cancer center, including his wife Kim Harris.
“Andy goes above and beyond for the community and the residents he serves even through the diagnosis and through the radiation without wavering,” said Kim Harris. “His heart for serving others is bigger then any cancer diagnosis. He inspires me daily to keep going and to keep serving.”
Watch the surprise for Harris below:
He was diagnosed last month with metastatic squamous carcinoma and had surgery in May to remove his tonsils and infected lymph nodes.
According to the National Cancer Institute, it’s a treatable type of skin cancer.
Kim Harris says she’s thrilled her husband is cancer free.
“Today I wanted Andy to know that he is appreciated and loved more then he will ever know and that today is the beginning of a new journey!” said Kim Harris.
Trustee Harris has worked through his treatment including radiation.
