INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana's kindergarten eligibility rules will change for the 2019-20 school year.

The law signed Monday by Gov. Eric Holcomb says a child who turns five years old on or before Sept. 1, 2019, will be eligible to apply for kindergarten. Previously, a child had to turn five by Aug. 1.

Additionally, a child who turns four on or before Sept. 1 is eligible to apply for pre-K, and one who turns five between Aug. 2 and Sept. 1 is eligible to apply for kindergarten or pre-K but not both.
