INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Department of Transportation is adding additional crews and utilizing contractors in an effort to address a growing pothole problem on interstates in the metropolitan Indianapolis area resulting from the recent freeze-thaw conditions.

In a news release, INDOT said the agency has more than doubled the number of maintenance crews working to patch potholes in Indianapolis this week.

Most crews will be working overnight to maintain the safety of both drivers and INDOT workers.

Nine crews are assigned to pothole patching overnight in the area indefinitely, INDOT said. The agency said at least two crews will also be active during daytime hours to address emergency potholes during peak times and perform patching on U.S. and state highways as needed.
