INDOT’s Greenfield District wants to prepare drivers for busy construction season

INDIANAPOLIS — It’s going to be a busy construction season for the Indiana Department of Transportation.

INDOT said that all parts of the I-465 loop will be touched and roughly a half a million tons of asphalt will be used. INDOT said this equals about 250 days worth of paving, which is a tough feat to take on.

The first project will be on I-65 from Southport Road to the North Split and over to the White River on I-70. This project will include 21-hour directional closures.

Other projects up for the season include a closure on I-465 on the southeast side, similar to last summer’s I-465 closure on the southwest side; A direction closure in the Dogleg on both I-865 and I-65; and more.

See below for a description of the projects, corresponding to the map provided.

Full details and dates of the projects will be released a couple of weeks prior to each project.

South side up to North Split (solid red line portion of map)
April to approximately Aug. 15
I-65 and I-70

  • Concrete pavement restoration, patching, overlay
  • Nights and weekend work
  • 21-hour directional closures will begin after rush hour on the first day and end prior to rush hour the following day (i.e. 9 a.m. to 6 a.m. on the northbound I-65 lanes, 6 p.m. to around 3 p.m. in the southbound lanes)
  • This project is contracted out to another company

  • This project is going to use a zipper wall (sometimes there will be one lane only, other times there will be two lanes available for use)
