INDIANAPOLIS — Here's an event that hasn't been canceled because of the pandemic, but adjustments have been made.
It's the Indy Film Fest presented by Indiana State University, and it's coming up soon.
Normally held in the spring at Newfields, the festival begins August 13, and instead of an inside theater, films will be shown at the Tibbs Drive-In, on Tibbs Avenue near West Washington Street on the Indianapolis west side.
The first film to screen is"I Use to go There," directed by Midwest-resident Kris Rey. In the film, a successful author finds herself deeply enmeshed in the lives of a group of college students after being asked to speak at her alma mater.
The second film that night will be "Sleeze Lake." Andrew J. Morgan and Nic Nummerdor’s documentary reminisces on a city of vans, debauchery, and summertime anarchy that sprung up on Memorial Day weekend in 1977 in Monticello, Indiana.
“We made a lot of changes this year to be able to still hold the Fest but we’re staying true to our mission to bring together fans around great films,” said Dan Moore, Indy Film Fest Executive Director. “We’re excited about the lineup of new, fresh content and to bring you movies that you’re not otherwise going to see.”
After opening night, the festival goes virtual. More than 120 films can be seen at home by purchasing virtual tickets.
Filmmaker Q&A will still take place this year, albeit, digitally. Select screenings will have filmmakers available for live and recorded Q&A and “behind the scenes” sessions to learn more about the making of the movies.
