INDIANAPOLIS — Metro police investigators determined that there was another vehicle involved in a pedestrian's death early Friday on Indianapolis' south side.

By Saturday, investigators announced they located the vehicle in question, unoccupied.

According to a report from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, hit-and-run investigators were looking for a silver or gray 2002 to 2009 GMC Envoy. Police said the Envoy was traveling south on Madison Avenue and struck the pedestrian in the left travel lane, knocking the pedestrian onto the roadway. Moments later the pedestrian was struck again by an IndyGo bus.

The Envoy, which has damage to the passenger side headlight and bumper area, fled the area. The Envoy also has what appears to be a circular sticker on the lower right portion of the back window.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to the scene on Madison Avenue between VanDyke Street and Worman Street just before 6 a.m. for a report of a pedestrian struck.

According to police, the IndyGo bus driver said the man was lying in the middle of the road when he was struck. The Marion County Coroner's Office identified the man as Bobby Watkins, 60.

Call 6 Investigates sources say the bus driver was driving south on Madison Avenue when he saw a body in the road at the last minute. The bus ran over the body. There was one passenger on the bus at the time of the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call the IMPD Hit and Run Office at 317-327-6549 or Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-TIPS (8477).

IndyGo released the following statement to RTV6 :

“Our sympathy is with the family of the south side pedestrian. As with all incidents involving an IndyGo bus, we will continue working with IMPD on the investigation.”

This is a developing story and will be updated with more information when it becomes available.
