UPDATE |Infant dies after being struck in the driveway of home

INDIANAPOLIS — An infant is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle Monday afternoon on the southeast side of Indianapolis.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the 5-month-old was hit just before 5 p.m. by a vehicle that pulled into a driveway in the 1700 block of Dawson Street.

IMPD said the child's mother was outside with the infant, who was in a child seat. She went inside and left the infant with other children outside. The infant's father returned home soon after and his vehicle struck and injured the child in the driveway.

The parents immediately called for help and are cooperating with investigators.

The infant was taken to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health.
