INDIANAPOLIS—Customers of Indianapolis Power and Light Company will have a chance in September to weigh in on the utility's latest proposed rate hike.
Two public meetings are planned, both starting at 6 p.m.
Tuesday, Sept. 3: New Augusta Public Academy, 6450 Rodebaugh Road.
Tuesday, Sept. 10: University of Indianapolis, Schwitzer Student Center, 1400 East Hanna Ave.
Both hearings take place before the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission, the agency that has final say over proposed utility rate hikes.
IPL wants the IURC to approve a series of rate increases spread out over 7-years. The additional revenue would fund improvements to IPL's electric grid which the company says would lead to shorter and fewer power outages.
Each year, between 2020 and 2026, customers would see their bills go up between 0.8 percent and 1.3 percent. According to IPL's estimate, the total increase for a residential customer would be about $10.50 per-year by 2026.
