GREENWOOD, Ind. -- Mount Pleasant Christian Church in Greenwood is asking something very small and simple from all of the people who attend their services on Sundays -- a dollar donation to make change.

And they aren't talking about change like nickles and dimes. They are asking for a dollar from every member of the church each week to donate to a person or family in need. They hope the money raised will make a difference and create some change in the lives of those most in need in the local community and beyond.

"In 38 years of leading a local church, I’ve never seen a ministry initiative that has energized my church on a weekly basis more than Change for a Dollar," said Senior Pastor Chris Philbeck. "There isn’t a week that goes by where someone doesn’t tell me how much they love the Change for a Dollar outreach."

Recently, the church collected the dollars for the family of Emma Moore. You may remember Emma as the young dancer from Franklin who died after a serious car crash in 2017. The Change for a Dollar collection at the end of December went to Emma's family.

Emma remained on life support for a few days following the crash because the family wanted to donate her vital organs to save other lives. Mount Pleasant announced that week at their service the money raised would go to to Moore family to help them pay for hospital and household expenses.

The church also encouraged its members to keep the Moore family in daily prayers, especially during the holiday season.

Philbeck said while Change for a Dollar is simple in concept, it has become the most powerful motivator for kindness, compassion and generosity. He says Change for a Dollar gives our people the genuine feeling of “being” the church on a weekly basis because the program models reaching out to hurting people with the love of Christ.
