JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. -- A student at a Johnson County high school used his senior project to use his skills at building robots.

Braxton Laster, a senior at Greenwood High School, built a prosthetic hand using a 3D printer -- which he also built himself.

The hand took a few months, but works pretty well. He designed a glove that sends a WiFi signal to move the hand.

"I kind of thought 'What the heck - I'll build a robotic hand' because it consisted in three main parts that I'm interested in: 3D modeling, wiring electronics and programming," Laster said. "I figured might as well choose it. It's got all the things I like."

He said he plans to keep working on the hand to make improvements to finger dexterity and to add wrist movements. Eventually, he hopes to ditch the glove and use muscle sensors to respond to his own hand's movements.

Laster plans to study computer science at either IU or Purdue.
