FISHERS — A kayaker was found dead early Wednesday morning on Geist Reservoir after an apparent drowning, according to police.

Around 1 a.m., Fishers Police Department officers found a man who apparently drowned and his kayak, FPD Sgt. Tom Weger said in a press release.

The man has been identified as James Sprandel, 71, according to the Hamilton County Coroner's Office. An autopsy is planned for Thursday.

Detectives do not believe foul play was involved in the incident, Weger said.

Officers in Fishers were called around 11 p.m. Tuesday to help Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers help locate Sprandel, who was reported as missing, Weger said.

The incident is still under a joint investigation by Fishers police detectives and conservation officers from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Edgar Holmes at 317-595-1430.
