INDIANAPOLIS — The U.S. Department of Homeland Security says kids between the ages of eight and 18, on average, spend more than seven hours per-day on line.

So, young people need to know as much as possible about cybercrime.

Tuesday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, the Pacers brought in experts from Rook Security to talk to students in grades six through eight about online security and cyberbullying.

"30 years ago, kids got bullied at school," said security solutions consultant Cornelius George. "They can go home, they can escape it, they can walk away from it and it's not that big a deal. Now, with the Internet, everything is forever. One embarrassing picture that gets put on by somebody else is going to be something everyone in the school sees, and it reverberates that much faster."

Parents can help their kids by making sure they keep personal information private.

That means not sharing their name, address, phone number, birthday, passwords and the name of their school when using the Internet.

And children need to think twice before they post or say anything online.

Once it's in Cyberspace, it's out there forever.
