INDIANAPOLIS — The Kokomo Police Department is saying goodbye to an officer who played a role in several drug busts and arrests.

K-9 Maxwil is retiring to spend a quiet life away from the force.

The 8-year-old Belgian Malinois is a duel-purpose K-9 trained in apprehensions and narcotics detection.

Maxwil will spend his retirement years with his police partner, Officer Charlie Fourkiller, and his family.

The Kokomo Police Department will conduct interviews later this month for a new K-9 handler, who will select a new K-9 from Von Liche Kennels in Denver, Ind. The new K-9 team will undergo a five-week training process at Von Liche Kennels.
