Kokomo student arrested after bringing gun on to school bus

KOKOMO — A Bon Air Middle School student was arrested on Thursday afternoon for having a gun on a Kokomo School Corporation school bus.

Kokomo School Corporation officials were notified at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Thursday that one of their students brought a gun on to the school bus. According to the Kokomo Police Department, school officials immediately notified them.

No threats or injuries were made to students, and they all made it home safely.

Police did arrest the student for Possession of a handgun on School Property, which is a Level 6 Felony.

The case remains under investigation, according to Kokomo Major, Brian Seldon.

The Kokomo Police Department also wished to thank the students who helped report the incident:

"Kokomo Police wish to thank the students who quickly saw something and said something to report the serious safety threat. The students who reported this suspicion helped school officials and police officials act quickly to help keep our community safe."
