LAWRENCE — The Lawrence Police Department made its big debut Friday on the TV show "Live PD."

The department made it official Thursday announcing camera crews with the A&E show will ride along with its officers. "Live PD" showcases law enforcement agencies across the county in real time as they patrol the streets.

Lawrence police chief David Hofmann said the department is excited because the show will shed light on how his officers do what they do and why.

"It gives our officers the ability to showcase the risks they take, the challenges they face, the sacrifices they make," Hofmann said. "And I think it really kind of opens the door to policing, and it shows our community really what it is that we do."

The only other Indiana agency to be features on "Live PD" was the Jeffersonville Police Department during the first season. "Live PD" is one of the top-rated cable shows on TV. It airs live Friday and Saturday nights on A&E.
