INDIANAPOLIS — Leaders of a tiny house village for people transitioning out of homelessness will hold public meetings this week and are making a few changes to their plans.

After meeting with people who live in the surrounding neighborhoods and city planners, Circle City Villages will now be a smaller community than was originally planned.

Instead of 28 tiny houses, they are now proposing 18 in order to put more space between them for fire safety.

Neighbors are also asking for sidewalks, which have been included in plans around the property on Lynhurst Drive near Morris Street.

They also plan to turn an old softball field that is no longer used into a park for residents and the public. Leon Longard, the board president, said he is anxious to make the tiny home village a reality to serve people who need low-income housing.

"I think in the end we want to create a place people are finding healing and restoration and this type of an approach provides that," Longard said.

The public meetings are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the sanctuary at Lynhurst Baptist Church and a Zoom meeting at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Organizers hope to break ground this fall.
