Female jogger assaulted at Mounds State Park in Madison County; suspect still on the run

MADISON COUNTY, Ind. -- The Madison County Sheriff’s Department is searching for a man who attacked a female who was jogging at a local state park.

Conservation officers with the Department of Natural Resources were called to Mounds State Park around 1 p.m. after a 19-year-old woman was assaulted while jogging.

The woman told officers she is a regular jogger at the park and was jogging along a trail when a man who appeared to be in his late 20s came up behind her and pushed her to the ground. The victim said the suspect hit her several times and groped her before she was able to push him off.

Detectives say another man in the park saw the attack and was ran up to help get the suspect off the woman before calling 911.

The suspect then ran from the scene.

Conservation officers and deputies from the Madison County Sheriff’s Department both responded to the scene and searched the area along with K-9 officers to try to locate the man but were unable to find him.

Detectives say they have some good leads on the suspect but have not made any arrests at this time. No description of the suspect has been released.
