INDIANAPOLIS — Hospitals in Marion County are lifting temporary visitor restrictions as flu activity declines.
Dr. Virginia A. Caine, director of the Marion County Public Health Department, recommended restrictions in January in order to protect patients, hospital staff and visitors during the flu season.
The Marion County Public Health Department said in a news release that the percentage of patients visiting Marion County emergency departments with flu-like symptoms dropped last week, and the number is below the level used when considering the need for temporary visitor restrictions.
The temporary restrictions included no visitors with symptoms of influenza, no visitors under the age of 18 and visitors were limited to immediate family members as identified by the patient.
Hospitals that participated in the visitor restrictions included: Community Health Network, Franciscan Health Indianapolis, St. Vincent, Peyton Manning Children's Hospital and Indiana University Health, including Riley Hospital, Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital and Richard L. Roudebush V.A. Medical Center.
