MADISON COUNTY — One person died and another was injured Friday night when their motorcycle was struck by a motorist in Madison County.

Madison County Sheriff's Department Captain Brian K. Bell said in a news release that deputies were were dispatched to a crash at County Roads 300 South and 600 West.

Investigators believe a 2002 Harley Davidson with a male driver and female passenger was either stopped or slowing at the intersection when a motorist in a 2003 Toyota did not see the motorcycle or the stop sign for eastbound traffic.

The driver of the Toyota struck the rear of the motorcycle and pushed it northeast into the ditch, Bell said. The Toyota then left the roadway on the south side of County Road 300 South and inverted before it came to a rest upside down in the middle of the road, just east of the intersection.

Bell said the passenger of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the motorcycle was transported to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis with a broken leg. Neither person wore a helmet.

The driver of the Toyota was transported to St. Vincent Hospital in Anderson for observation.
