MONTERREY, Mexico -- For the duration of his trip to Monterrey, Call 6 Investigates Rafael Sanchez has been trying to get into one of Carrier's plants.
He was denied.
“The safety and privacy of our employees is important to us," the company said in an email.
However, Call 6 Investigates has learned that Carrier could save as much as 8 to 10 million dollars with salaries, benefits and retirement connected to Indianapolis workers by making the move to Monterrey.
The company may also increase profits because two plants in Monterrey are energy efficient.
An interview was scheduled with the secretary of state in Monterrey Thursday to learn more about the city's efforts to encourage American businesses to move to Mexico, but that interview was delayed and then canceled.
Monterrey makes no secret of the foreign companies that are there.
While the region has been Mexico’s economic engine for decades, under NAFTA it points to the 12,000 trucks that leave, mainly to the United States, proclaiming it is at the backbone of the NAFTA market.
