INDIANAPOLIS — Bicyclists across the Circle City will have some new, safer ways to get around.

Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett announced new "neighborways" in two sections of the city Thursday.

Neighborways use residential streets to help connect bicyclists and scooter riders to other bike paths and lanes. The infrastructure improvements and new signage will come from money that the scooter companies have paid to the city.

The new neighborways will be in the near-southeast and near-north sides of the city.

"It's a way for safe passage using the bicycle for kids or whoever so we are using streets that are much safer than putting more bike lanes on a major throughfare where folks are just not as safe," Indianapolis director of public works Dan Parker said.

Next month, two open meetings will be held for the public to learn more.
