NOBLESVILLE — Hundreds of people attended a peaceful protest for black lives Sunday afternoon in Noblesville.

The protest at Federal Hill Commons was one of several this weekend in central Indiana as people continue pushing for a stop to racial violence in America.

Organizers of the event said they are trying to stand together as a community in solidarity and want the rest of the state and country to know they see them, hear them, and love them.

Bethel A.M.E. Church Rev. Mindy Mayes said he spirit is hurting and is she is in pain after seeing George Floyd's death.

"Even here close to Indianapolis we've experienced the killing of Dreasjon Reed killed because he was in high-speed chase," Mayes said. "Just because you are in a high speed chase doesn't mean you have to die. As a black woman, I am scared I will get the call that my brothers, my nephews, cousins or godson will have some encounter with the police and it won't end well. But I have hope."

Mayes said there is power when people work together and come together to start to understand each other.
