ZIONSVILLE — One day after a 23-year-old Zionsville man was found dead near a popular trail, Boone County authorities say they are using "everything at their disposal" to solve the case.

Samuel Bennett's body was found Sunday morning near the Zionsville Rail Trail, the apparent victim of a shooting.

"The entire Criminal Investigations Division is assigned to this investigation, along with other public safety partners, including the Boone County Homicide Task Force," according to a statement released Monday by the Zionsville Police Department.

On Sunday, Zionsville Police Chief Robert Knox urged residents of the area to be very careful when outside.

"We don't have this solved, we don't know exactly what happened, so absolutely you want to stay on your toes and watch yourself any time you are out in public."

On Monday, Knox encouraged people to use the "buddy system" when out walking, jogging or bicycling.

"I still believe Zionsville is a very safe community, unfortunately evil again has come to our town," said Knox.

The Zionsville Police Department is increasing patrols in the area and along the Big-4 Rail Trail.

The department is asking the public to come forward with any information that could help in the investigation.

Zionsville Police can be reached between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at: 317-873-5967.
