Police investigate 2 armed robberies near Ball State University in same week

Incidents happened near Beacon Hill apartments

MUNCIE, Ind. -

Ball State University students are on alert after two armed robberies near campus.

Police on campus issued a safety alert after officials said a man was robbed early Sunday.

"There were a lot of people tweeting about it like, 'Oh my gosh! There was an armed robbery!' Then I eventually checked my email," student Emily Coughlin said.

Muncie police said five men robbed a man at gunpoint about 3:30 a.m. near the Beacon Hill Apartments before getting away in a black sedan.

"I actually live in Beacon Hill apartments, so when I found out, I was really freaked out because I want to live in a safe part of campus" student Kayli Owen said.

Student Jordan Thrasher said he was alarmed after hearing the reports.

"That's like the second or third time I have gotten an alert. It's pretty scary because I walk down this street like every day," Thrasher said.

Last week's alert identified the victim as a woman and witnesses said she flashed a handgun before taking off in a black Lexus.

The alleged robberies happened less than half a mile from each other, police said.

"It freaks me out because I was walking around last night by myself and reading about all those things that happened. I definitely need to be safer about it, and all of my friends need to be safer about it," Owens said.

Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to contact the Muncie Police Department at 765-286-4050.
