INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Metro Police detectives are investigating a report of an attempted abduction near an east side elementary school.

The incident happened May 28 near Anna Brochhausen School 88, an elementary school in the Indianapolis Public Schools district.

IPS spokeswoman Carrie Black said the child was approached near a bus stop after the student got off the bus to go home.

Records show IMPD responded to the 1600 block of North Emerson Avenue to investigate an attempted kidnapping, about one mile from the school.

“The parents immediately notified IMPD and IPS Police were notified,” Black said. “IPS police officers have been patrolling that stop/area during pick-up and drop-off times as an added layer of security.”

IMPD detectives are investigating and no arrests have been made.

IPS wants families to be careful.

“On our end, we made sure to inform our families who live in the area to be extra vigilant concerning their children and review the stranger danger safety precautions with them,” said Black.

The last day of school for IPS is Thursday June 13.

School 88 is located at 5801 East 16th Street.
