INDIANAPOLIS — They weren't there long and now they're gone. Primanti Brothers this week closed its restaurants in Avon and on the south side. That's in addition to the Noblesville Primanti which shut down last year.

The Pittsburgh-based sandwich shop chain is keeping its downtown Indianapolis location open.

A corporate spokesman confirmed the closings to RTV6 Friday.

Primanti Brothers was founded in Pittsburgh in 1933 and in recent years has expanded beyond its home base.

It's signature sandwich has grilled meat, melted cheese, coleslaw, tomato slices and fries.

The Avon store was on U.S. 36 and the south side location was on the Greenwood-Indianapolis line, off County Line Road at I-65.
