WEST LAFAYETTE—Purdue University's Interfraternity Council has suspended the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity after an 18-year-old student was arrested for rape.

The alleged incident happened during a Saturday night event in Clinton County, according to the sheriff's department.

The university made the announcement Monday, saying the suspect has been suspended from school while the case is investigated.

The student is an 18-year-old from New Jersey who faces a preliminary felony charge of rape. He was arrested in West Lafayette and taken to the Clinton County Jail.

The female victim reported the incident to authorities and was treated at a local hospital.
