INDIANAPOLIS – For the first time in the history of the Indianapolis 500, RTV6 has rights to air the ABC broadcast of the race a second time – on Memorial Day, May 30. Interest is especially intense this year for the 100th running of the greatest spectacle in racing.

RTV6 will broadcast the race two times to local viewers:
Sunday, May 29 at 7 p.m.
Monday, May 30 from 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

“Indianapolis loves the tradition of this iconic sporting event,” said Larry Blackerby, vice president and general manager of WRTV. “Hundreds of thousands of people pack the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to see all of the action, but that’s not enough. They want to watch every lap and every pit stop at home on TV. With our second broadcast, fans will have more opportunities than ever to relive that unforgettable experience.”

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway controls the local broadcast rights and has blacked out the live broadcast in the Indianapolis market since 1950. IMS made the decision this year to give RTV6 rights for a second broadcast.

“For most of us who are fans of the Indianapolis 500, our favorite time of the year, our favorite moments of the year, begin with the 30 minutes leading up to the green flag of each Indianapolis 500 and end when the winning driver takes a victory lap around IMS in the pace car,” said Doug Boles, president of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. “And for many, it has become a tradition to watch the race broadcast and relive those important moments on WRTV after coming home from the race that evening. Thanks to WRTV and ABC, we’ll have an opportunity to relive the 100th Running again on Memorial Day Monday as a great way to kick-off backyard barbeques and family gatherings!”
