TIPPECANOE COUNTY — Authorities in Tippecanoe County are warning citizens of scammers pretending to be a sheriff's deputy.

The scammer allegedly identifies himself as "Deputy Randall" when he calls from 765-250-4298, according to a press release from the sheriff's office. If the scammer leaves a voicemail, he asks people to call the number back and dial extension 701.

Authorities warn people to be cautious because the scammer can be very easily believed and sound legitimate, according to the release.
