SHELBY COUNTY -- Advocates for foster children in Shelby County are hoping to make the holidays brighter for children in their community.

Since 2010, the Court and Child Advocacy Group of Rush and Shelby County have provided Christmas gifts for children who may not have a Christmas due to their home situations.

In 2016, with help from sponsors and donors, they were able to give gifts to 130 children, a new record.

This year, they hope to exceed that number. They are hoping to get even more community members involved to help children.

The advocates work with kids who have become wards of the court system at no fault of their own. Many of them are foster children and have been abused or neglected.

Advocates are currently working on the children's wish lists for Christmas. The lists will be available November 1st.

There are a variety of ways to get involved. The group accepts monetary donations, or if you would prefer to shop for the children they will send a wish list to you.

After gifts are purchased, advocates will wrap them and provide tags.

Those interested in helping are encouraged to contact Cristina McNicholas, Community Relations Manager of the Court and Child Advocacy Group. Her e-mail is cmcnicholas.casa.ccag@gmail.com. Her phone number is 317-392-1212 Ext. 701.
