INDIANAPOLIS — Cleanup efforts in downtown Indianapolis will have an impact on some IndyGo bus routes that normally service those areas.

IndyGo announced Sunday morning that they were resuming normal Sunday schedules, but riders should expect delays in the downtown area.

Routes 8 and 24, which generally service the downtown area, will be on detour most of the day avoiding Maryland Street between Illinois and Pennsylvania because of damage downtown and cleanup efforts.

If you need to use an IndyGo route Sunday, the bus service is encouraging riders to use the MyStop app to track which buses are on their normal schedules and any detours caused by the downtown cleanup.

A day of peaceful protests turned violent Saturday evening as police say a small group of the crowd went rogue and began breaking windows of buildings and throwing things at officers. The violence escalated as the sun went down and protesters began burning things in the streets, rioting, looting businesses and catching them on fire.

It is still unclear how much damage was done Saturday evening and early Sunday morning, but police have asked all residents to avoid much of the downtown area while the Department of Public Works attempts to clean up as much as possible.
