INDIANAPOLIS — The Half Price Books store on West 86th Street in Indianapolis was busier than normal, Friday.
Workers were sorting, boxing and giving away about 5,000 children's books.
The Half Pint Library Program is a book drive Half Price books hosts each year to collect and distribute children's books to those in need.
Schools and non-profit organizations that work with children could pick up free books at the north side store.
It's a nationwide event that's put more than 2 million books in the hands of kids over the last 21 years.
"Books donated through the Half Pint Library Program provide an escape from the challenges faced by children, while helping to boost literacy outside of school," according to Emily Bruce, the public relations manager for Half Price Books.
Donations to the book drive were made by customers at the chain's Indiana stores and then matched by the company.
