INDIANAPOLIS — Legendary actor, Tom Hanks, was in Indianapolis on Wednesday to remind Hoosiers the real reason for memorial day.

Hanks and former United States Senator Elizabeth Dole joined leaders from across the state to rally in support of military caregivers.

The Hidden Heroes campaign is a two-day celebration to support the people who give so much time and energy to make sure our veterans and active-duty military members are safe and take care of when they aren't on the front line.

Unfortunately, Hanks says, the United States doesn't always give the support that military caregivers need.

"There is no reason in the greatest country in the world — on planet earth — that anybody, in any circumstance, should remain isolated in the burden of taking care of a loved one who served," Hanks said. "Who needs care every single day. There is no reason for anyone; for example, Eugenie Beller and her husband to feel as though no one is looking out for them."

Hanks says with Hidden Heroes, the military caregivers can get financial support if needed. For example, to help pay a mortgage or help connect you with people who can build a wheelchair ramp.
