INDIANAPOLIS — A volunteer track coach for Cathedral High School in Indianapolis arrested late last year in a child seduction case may avoid trial.
The Marion County Prosecutor's Office says 24-year-old Curtis Steger has agreed to a plea deal.
He is charged with five counts of Child Seduction for allegedly having sex with an underage girl who was on the track team.
Details of the plea agreement will not be released until a late-May hearing and it will be up to a judge to accept the deal.
An affidavit states that the minor victim had often confided in Steger, and after the 2018 track season was over, Steger had begun following her on social media, including Snapchat.
By the time the school year was done and summer started, the minor and Steger had begun communicating daily via text and Snapchat, according to the court filing.
Soon after, the minor admits to visiting Steger's household up to six times, with romantic affairs beginning with the second visit.
In November, the minor ended the relationship and by December had asked him to stop communication with her.
During a search at Steger's house a journal was found that included letters/journal entries to the minor along the lines of loving, missing and wanting to be with her.
Steger was also an assistant coach for the Cathedral girl's high school soccer team.
At the time of his arrest, Cathedral High School issued the following statement:
"Cathedral High School severed all ties with the volunteer track/soccer coach as soon as we learned of his arrest. We will continue to work with authorities throughout the investigation."
