INDIANAPOLIS -- A pedestrian was reported in "very serious" condition Monday night following a crash at the intersection of 16th and Meridian streets.

The crash occurred around 11:15 p.m., as thousands of people were leaving downtown following the 4th of July fireworks show.

Officials said an elderly man was struck by a vehicle and suffered "very serious" injuries.

The man was transported to Methodist Hospital.

The driver of the silver Buick that struck the elderly man says they just didn't see him out in the street.

Investigators were on scene reconstructing the crash.
