INDIANAPOLIS — A trooper was taken to the hospital after his cruiser was struck at the side of the interstate.

Indiana State Police Sergeant John Perrine says Trooper Andrew Atwell was inside his cruiser when it was struck by another vehicle while pulled over on I-70 near Emerson Avenue.

Sgt. Perrine said Trooper Altwelll's cruiser was at the shoulder with its emergency lights activated. He believes another vehicle may have splashed slush onto the other driver's windshield before the collision.

He was taken to the hospital complaining of back pain.

Trooper Atwell is a two-year veteran with Indiana State Police.

Sgt. Perrine says this is the fourth time he's been inside his cruiser when it was struck along the side of the road.

The other driver was ticketed for failure to yield to a stationary emergency vehicle.

Trooper Altwell was released from the hospital Wednesday afternoon and is expected to make a full recover.
